Oberentzen

Oberentzen ( German Oberenzen ) is a commune with 583 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the district Guebwiller, for Canton Ensisheim and community association Centre Haut-Rhin.

Geography

The municipality is situated on the Oberentzen Ill, about ten kilometers north of Ensisheim and 16 kilometers south of Colmar. In the west the municipality extends to the Old Thur, in the north of the built-up area flows seamlessly into the territory of the municipality Niederentzen. To the east of the community a part of the closed in July 2010 Air Force base is " Base aérienne 132 Colmar- Meyenheim ". The close running Autoroute A35 with connection at Meyenheim connects the village to the south of Mulhouse and Basel and to the north with Colmar and Strasbourg.

History

Until the 13th century the villages of Lower and Oberentzen still formed a single municipality. Even today, the development of the village on the northern border with the municipality of Niederentzen a unit.

The church Saint -Nicolas of 1744 replaced an earlier church dating back to 1303. It is equipped with an organ of the organ builder Louis Dubois (* 1731 or 1726, † February 23, 1766 ) from 1759 with the original organ pipes fitted.
