Niederentzen

Niederentzen ( German Niederenzen ) is a commune with 494 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) in the department of Haut-Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the district Guebwiller, for Canton Ensisheim and community association Centre Haut-Rhin.

Geography

The municipality is situated on the Niederentzen Ill, about 15 kilometers south of Colmar. In the west the municipality extends to the Old Thur, in the south of the built-up area flows seamlessly into the territory of the municipality Oberentzen.

History

To 1276 the place was called Nidern Enszheim (low Ensisheim ). The settlement was assumed in the 13th century the Abbey Murbach.

Attractions

The choir of the parish church of St. Agatha dates from the 15th century, the ship from the early 18th century. The octagonal bell tower was built in 1828. 1859 was followed by further modifications and extensions in 1940 renewed to the ceiling paintings and 1967 the church was thoroughly renovated. The church was classified in 1995 as a monument historique.
