Blancherupt

Blancherupt ( German Bliensbach ) is a commune in the Bas -Rhin in the Alsace region. It belongs to the Communauté de communes founded in 2000, de la Haute- ruptures. With 38 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) is Blancherupt the smallest municipality in Alsace.

Origin of the name

Blanche comes from the Germanic Blanca ( white, light ); rupt comes from the Latin rivus (Bach) or ruptum ( current). In fact, there are many small sources in the immediate vicinity of Blancherupt.

History

The village appears only in the archives since 1371st The gentlemen advisable Hausen sold Blancherupt 1507 to the Bishop of Strasbourg. You manage the village but continue.

1604 the village was acquired by the Lords of Bollwiller, among which were the heirs Fugger. 1659 was the village after Andlau, which was confirmed in 1688. Blancherupt belonged to the Revolution to Andlau. As a result of the breakdown of 1790 came to the village of Bas- Rhin and was integrated into the Canton of Rosheim the District of Benfeld.

After the construction of the church (completed in 1860) Blancherupt 1861 became an independent parish. The church of Saint -André was built by the architect Eugene Strassburger Petitie.
