Urmatt
Urmatt is a commune with 1461 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the valley of ruptures in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region. In the Merovingian period the place was called "Casa Rumaldi ". On the Long Mountain, a side peak of the Rocher de Mutzig, is a Druid monument.
Coat of arms
After the Alsatian historian Grandidier the name Urmatt goes (Latin urus ) back to the source word. According to his interpretation, a perfect place to hunt aurochs in trenches on wet swampy terrain. Another historian suggests Schoepflin UR as old and MAT as a meadow, hence old meadows. The coat of arms shows a red aurochs on a green background.

- Natural Monument Porte de pierre / hinge. Two vertical weathered sandstone rocks on which another sandstone rock like a lintel still is.
- Softwood sawmill in Urmatt, No.1 in France by area, timber production, about 300 employees
- Usine Mullerhof. A Henry Miller from the nearby Schirmeck bought in 1840 a mill near Urmatt and installed there in this Usine a spinning loom. He built also a Chateau style property that, according to him Chateau du Mullerhof is called.
