Saint-Blaise-la-Roche

Saint -Blaise -la- Roche ( German Saint Blaise ) is a commune of 232 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in Breuschtal (French Vallée de la rupture ) in the department of Bas- Rhin in the Alsace region.

Chronicle

In a text from the 13th century, the same location under the name " Hiltwigsgerüte " and in German as Sankt Blasius is included. The settlement belonged to the lords of the Ban de la Roche, who belonged to the family of Rathsamshausen. The Count of Andlau held there possessions, which led to conflict between the two families. Furthermore, the village was owned by the Diocese of Strasbourg, the gentlemen of the Val de Villé and the barons of Bollwiller. Then Saint -Blaise -la -Roche again went over to the counts of Andlau who kept it until the French Revolution. Then the village was assigned to the department Vosges. In 1871 it came to the district of Lower Alsace, when Alsace was annexed by the German Empire under Kaiser Wilhelm I.. In 1919 it went through the Treaty of Versailles again to France (department of Bas- Rhin).

The village is located in the Vosges Mountains, about 35 kilometers southwest of Molsheim.
