Briek Schotte

Alberic " Briek " Scot ( born September 7, 1919 in Kanegem ( since 1976 part of community Tielt ), † April 4, 2004 in Kortrijk ) was a Belgian racing cyclist.

Raised in West Flanders Briek bulkheads shall be regarded as one of the best classic rider of his generation. The outstanding sprinter won numerous Belgian and French -day races, including two each, the Tour of Flanders (1942, 1948), Paris -Tours (1946, 1947) and Paris -Brussels (1946, 1952). Even his greatest success was Scotchman celebrate twice: in 1948 and 1950, he triumphed at the Road World Championships.

Due to its limited capabilities in time trials and in the mountains was a Scot for the big stage races not predestined. Nevertheless, he came second behind the legendary Gino Bartali at the Tour de France in 1948. Since 1941, the GP Briek Scot will be held in the Belgian Desselgem, won its first three sweeps bulkhead.

Briek Scot died on the morning of April 4, 2004, exactly on the day on which the Tour of Flanders was discharged, he had won twice.
