Brussels Cycling Classic

The Brussels Cycling Classic (English, German: Brussels cycling classics until 2012: Paris -Brussels, French: Paris - Bruxelles) is one of the oldest still existing classic one day races in cycling. Originally from Paris to Brussels leading race was first held in 1893 and is held annually since 1906 with few interruptions.

The race date from Paris -Brussels until the end of April 1966, it was regarded as one of the major spring classics of cycling. After a break of six years, the race was recorded again in 1973 and since then takes place in September. Today, the race is considered " semi- classic" and is classified in the category " 1.HC ", ie in the highest category under the UCI World Tour, from the world of cycling body UCI.

The length of the race was shortened over the years: In the early days well over 400 km long, it consisted of 1987 still around 300 km, which today held over 200 km. Therefore, the start of Paris -Brussels was not in Paris but in the meantime, around 85 km north-east of Soissons in place. After also the start was moved to Brussels in 2013, the race got its present name.

Record winner of the long time dominated by Belgians race with five hits Australian Robbie McEwen (2002, 2005-08 ). This is followed with three wins Frenchman Octave Lapize ( 1911-13 ) and the Belgian Félix Sellier ( 1922-24 ). The only winner was German Rolf Golz 1988.
