Diarmuid Martin

Diarmuid Martin ( born April 8, 1945 in Dublin, Ireland) is Archbishop of Dublin.

Life

After studying philosophy and theology in Dublin, Martin was ordained a priest on May 25, 1969 for the Archdiocese of Dublin. Now he continued his studies in moral theology at the Angelicum in Rome continued, after which he joined in 1976 as an official of the Pontifical Council for the Family at the service of the Apostolic See.

In 1986 he was appointed Vice President in 1994 and as General Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace, followed on December 5, 1998, the appointment would titular bishop of Glenndálocha. Pope John Paul II gave him on 6 January 1999 in St. Peter personally episcopal ordination. In March 2003, promoted to Titular Archbishop, he was also the permanent representative of the Holy See to the United Nations in Geneva, as well as in the World Trade Organization.

Appointed on 3 May 2003 coadjutor of the Archbishop of Dublin, he was introduced on 30 August 2003 in the office and finally on 26 April 2004 Archbishop of Dublin and Primate of Ireland.

Views

In February 2014, Martin turned against homophobia in the Irish Roman Catholic Church and valued people, gay people do not respond with love, as homophobic and hostile god. However, he turned the Same-sex marriage is to be voted on in a referendum in 2015.
