William Crean

William Crean ( born December 16, 1951 in Tralee, County Kerry) is an Irish clergyman of the Roman Catholic Church and Bishop of Cloyne.

Life

William Crean is the son of Patrick and Margaret Crean (nee O'Donnell ). From the family several priests emerged. He received his first education in his home and place of birth Tralee and completed it at the St. Brendan's College in Killarney continued. Then he started on Saint Patrick 's College in Maynooth studying Catholic theology and philosophy, graduating with a Bachelor degree. As a result, he began graduate studies at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where in 1977 a degree in theology.

The Bishop of Kerry, Eamon Casey, ordained him a priest on 20 June 1976. In 1987, he earned at Mount Oliver Institute of Education in Dundalk a degree in Religious Education. After some pastoral duties, he was appointed canon and was from 1987 to 1996 Director of Religious Adult Education in Killarney. From 1998 to 1999 he studied at the Sunday school of the Weston School of Theology in Boston (STM). He was for two years chairman of the Adult Religious Education National Association ( ARENA ).

On November 24, 2012 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. Bishop of Cloyne. He received his episcopal consecration the Apostolic Nuncio in Ireland, Archbishop Charles Brown, on 27 January 2013 Co-consecrators were Dermot Clifford, Archbishop of Cashel and Emly, and William Murphy, Bishop of Kerry.
