Michael Smith (bishop)

Michael Smith ( born June 6, 1940 in Oldcastle, County Meath ) is a Roman Catholic bishop in Ireland.

Life

Smith studied Catholic theology and philosophy at the Pontifical Irish College in Rome. He was ordained on March 9, 1963, Roman Catholic priest. In Rome he became a Doctor of Canon Law. After his return from Italy he worked in the parish of Mullingar. On November 17, 1983 Smith was appointed auxiliary bishop in the diocese of Meath and Titular Bishop of Leges. On 13 October 1988 Smith was appointed Coadjutor Bishop of Meath and was followed by Bishop John McCormack on May 16, 1990, after which age-related withdrawal.

Michael Smith is a Grand Officer of the Equestrian Order of the Holy grave in Jerusalem.
