Earl Young (athlete)

Earl Young ( Verdelle Earl Young; born February 14, 1941 in San Fernando, California ) is a former American track and field athlete and Olympic champion.

1960, the 1.90 m wide Young qualified in 46.4 seconds in the 400 -meter run behind Jack Yerman for the Olympic Games. On August 12, 1960 at the Olympic test event in Walnut ran Eddie Southern, Young, Otis Davis and Yerman in 3:05,6 minutes a world record in the 4x440 yards.

At the Olympic Games in Rome in 1960 Earl Young reached the final of the 400 meters in 45.9 seconds and was sixth. The 4-by- 400 - meter relay in the Cast Jack Yerman, Earl Young, Glenn Davis and Otis Davis won gold before the season from Germany. Both squadrons were over a second under the old world record. The new world record of the U.S. season of 3:02,2 minutes was undercut in the finals of the Olympic Games in Tokyo four years later.

At the Pan American Games in 1963 in São Paulo Young won both the 4 x 100 - meter relay and the 4 x 400 - meter relay gold.
