Michael Mathieu

Michael Mathieu (* June 24, 1984 in Freeport ) is a Bahamian sprinter who specializes in the 400 -meter run.

Career and Achievements

In 2006, he secured the title at the national championships over 400 meters. At international level, he celebrated his greatest successes as a member of the 4 x 400 - meter relay of the Bahamas.

In 2007 he won with the Bahamian relay silver medal at the World Championships in Osaka. In 2008, he finished at the Olympic Games in Beijing, together with Andretti Bain, Andrae Williams and Chris Brown also ranks second in the individual competition and came into the semifinal.

At the IAAF World Indoor Athletics Championships 2010 in Doha, Mathieu failed to qualify for the finals and the season did not reach the target in the 400 -meter run. In the same year he was at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi in two competitions each fourth. Also, he finished fourth in the Pan American Games 2011 in Guadalajara in the 200 -meter run.

His greatest success came Mathieu at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Together with Chris Brown, Demetrius Pinder and Ramon Miller, he presented the Bahamian Season in 2:56,72 minutes a new national record. This means that the quartet secured a surprise gold medal in front of the favored U.S. team.
