Equestrian at the 2012 Summer Olympics – Individual jumping

The individual competition in show jumping at the 2012 Olympics in London was discharged Park from the 4th to the 8th of August 2012 at Greenwich. It came to 75 riders.

Unlike many championships, the Olympic show jumping competition did not start with a time jumping, but with a Jumping Competition. The result of this examination was a first in the individual competition, however, was relevant to the team score only for the boot order.

In the second and third part inspection it was the Nations Cup, which consisted of two jumping for errors. On both days, different courses were to dispute. On the first day of the Nations were the best 60 individual riders and all the team riders who were not among the best 60 in the first test run. For the finals in the individual competition, the top 35 individual riders qualified. On this day the riders had with their horses to contest a jumping competition with two rounds. For the second round of testing is qualified still the best 20 riders of the first circulation.

Tiffany Foster's horse Victor was removed from the competition. It was found a hypersensitivity on the left hand front, the horse was excluded as not fit to compete from the competition.

The Swede Rolf -Göran Bengtsson, the reigning European champion, pulled his horse back Casall from the competition. In the veterinary examination before the finale, it was found that the Holsteiner Stallion was lame.

Cian O'Connor succeeded the first Irish medal in the Olympic equestrian sport. The 65- year-old Canadian Ian Millar, who finished the tournament in 9th place, took the tenth time since 1972 Summer Olympics in part. After the Games, the silver medal winner Gerco Schröder were several horses, including also London, revoked due to financial problems. Through an agreement between the bank and attorneys Schröder was able to ride again later tournaments on London. Cian O'Connor benefited from the disqualification of the horse Lantinus his compatriot Denis Lynch. Lynch's horse was suffering from a hypersensitivity to the leg, the Irish Pferdesportverband pulled Lynch's nomination back. Instead Lynch O'Connor single starting place was awarded.
