The Euro Vision Song Contest 1971 was the 16th song contest of the European broadcasters euro vision since the beginning in 1956. He was on 3 April 1971 at the Gaiety Theatre in Dublin held since last year's winner Dana had set out for Ireland. The event was hosted by Bernadette Ní Ghallchoir. The Contest for Monaco Séverine won with the song Un banc, un arbre, une rue.

Special

The new scoring system brought again some confusion. Several countries, a total of at least 8 out of 18, not scooped the possible maximum score of 10 (two judges, each with 5 points ) for the contribution of a country. Whether they did this to possibly help her or a friendly country to victory, could not be determined. However, this behavior was also in the following years in which this rating system was used (1971 to 1973) to determine.

For the first time Malta took part in this competition.
