Flag of Uzbekistan

The flag of Uzbekistan was officially launched on 18 November 1991.

Importance

The colors of the national flag are interpreted as follows:

  • Blue stands for the sky. Another interpretation says that the blue back to Tamerlane banners and some Turkic.
  • White symbolizes justice and the extensive cotton monocultures of the country
  • Green stands for the hospitality of the Uzbek population
  • The thin red stripes indicate the strength of the people

The crescent refers to the Islam of the predominantly Muslim population and represents the rebirth of the country. The twelve stars are interpreted in two ways: in one, they stand for the twelve provinces ( Viloyaltar ), in the other interpretation for twelve months of an ancient calendar.

Historical flags

After the Uzbek SSR was founded in 1925, were by 1952 different red flags with golden inscription of the name of the political entity in use. The first variant, in use from July 22, 1925 had an inscription in Arabic and Cyrillic. The inscription was an abbreviation of Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic in Uzbek and Russian languages ​​.

As of January 9, 1926 a Latin inscription found himself instead of the Arabic characters via the Cyrillic - Russian after the Arabic script had been abolished. Under the Russian inscription was in Latin letters also bear the words in Tajik language, especially since at this time the Tajik ASSR of the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic was subordinated.

After the Tajik ASSR was detached from the Uzbek SSR in 1931 and became a separate SSR, the tadschikischsprachige inscription was removed from the flag. After 1935, a change in the Uzbek Latin alphabet, also the flag was adjusted.

From 1937, the name of the political entity on the flag was announced. After the Uzbek language written in Cyrillic letters from 1940, a flag was from 16 January 1941 in use, which showed both the Uzbek and the Russian name in Cyrillic.

On August 29, 1952, the flag was changed one last time in the Soviet era. This flag consisted of five horizontal stripes (ratio of strip widths 20:1:8:1:20 ) in the colors red, white, blue, white, red with hammer and sickle and a star in golden color in the left part of the upper red stripe. On the back of the symbols were not shown.
