Flayosc

Flayosc is a commune with 4393 ​​inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Var department in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

Flayosc is just a few kilometers west of the sub-prefecture of Draguignan in a fertile, hilly landscape. The area is irrigated by the three streams Florieille, Rimalte and Pontlachade.

History

In the nearby area now called Le Flayosquet there was a Roman necropolis. Another necropolis, living spaces and roads there were in Saint -Pierre -de- Lavenon and not far in La Basse Vaure.

Already in 1050 the place was named Flaiosc. 1388 to Flayosc was under the rule of Villeneuve, who in 1657 handed over to the lords of Clumanac and Périer and in 1678 set up as Marquisat. Since the change of rule was withdrawn by 1657 again, the Villeneuve also took over the newly built Marquisat.

1589 the place was robbed and burned down by La Valette. 16 inhabitants and the squire were slain.

In May 1792, the population destroyed under the leadership of the mayor of the castle. The rule fled to Strasbourg.

The picturesque village center with its medieval streets lies to the extensive building of a church on a hill. On the Place de la République are as a monument historique excellent fountain

An oil mill from the 13th century can be seen in Le Flayosquet.

Museum

The Museum of Naive Art shows 250 such works.
