Le Luc

Le Luc, also Le Luc -en- Provence, is a commune with 9532 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the Var department in the Provence- Alpes- Côte d' Azur.

Geography

Le Luc is situated in the center of the Var area, 5 km from the French motorway A8 La Provencale about half way from Nice to Marseille near the turnoff to Toulon in the south west.

History

In 1019 the location on the Via Aurelia place Luc appears in the populated area in prehistoric times as Lucus in the sources, which means in about sacred forest.

Le Luc stood in the 14th century under the rule of the Lords of Lascaris - Ventimiglia.
