Ivančice

Ivančice ( German Eibenschütz ) is a city in the Czech Republic. It is located approximately 21 km southwest of Brno at the confluence of Oslava and Rokytná in the Jihlava.

History

Ivančice 1221 was mentioned for the first time, starting in 1288, it had the status of a royal town. In the 15th century the city came to the Lords of Lipa, in whose possession it remained until the battle of White Mountain. In the 16th century it was an important center of Czech Brethren, among other things, lived in Ivančice January Blahoslav, Bishop of the Bohemian Brethren and author of a Czech grammar. In the Thirty Years' War Ivančice was re-Catholicised and lost its previous importance.

Sons and daughters of the town

Ivančice the birthplace of the painter Alfons Mucha and the film and television actor Vladimír Menšík is ( The Fairy Tale Bride). In the city there are more than two permanent exhibitions in the museum. The name of the Jewish scholar Jonathan Eybeschuetz, whose father officiated here as a Rabbi is derived from the German place name.
