History

In 1246 Lichtenau was first mentioned in the context of a will in which the Hohenstaufen Empire Vogt, Rudolf von Dornsberg that Lichtenau Castle bequeathed to his wife, Gwendolyn, owner, however, is the kingdom.

The pentagonal fortress dominates the old town center. It is strongly reminiscent of the Nuremberg castle, whose outposts she was. Lichtenau was from 1406 to 1806 in the possession of the imperial city of Nuremberg, which was part of the Frankish kingdom circle from 1500.

Interesting addition to the fortress Trinity Church, the two gates, town hall and the renovated town houses in the old town around the market place.
