Weihenzell ( colloquially: Waiətsél ) is a municipality in the Middle Franconian district of Ansbach and office of the Management Community Weihenzell.

Geography
Geographical Location
The municipality is located 7 km northeast of Ansbach in the natural park of Franconia.

Neighboring municipalities are (from north clockwise beginning ): Rügland, Dietenhofen, Bruck Berg, Peter Herzogenaurach, Ansbach and teaching mountain.

History
The first mention is demonstrated in a feudal charter of Bishop Manegold to Würzburg from March 29, 1299. The Church of St. Gumbertus ( Ansbach ) is regarded as the founder of the place Weihenzell and was a significant landowner in the municipality. The place belonged to the Principality of Ansbach in 1792 acquired by Prussia, which was in the Frankish Empire Circle from 1500. As part of the principality he fell in the Treaty of Paris ( February 1806 ) by exchange of Bavaria. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community.
On July 15, 1964 fell between forestry and the four-engine Boeing Petersdorf 720- 030B "Bremen " with the aircraft registration mark D- ABOP Deutsche Lufthansa from. On the training flight, the crew, including former Air Force fighter pilot Werner Baake tried to fly another after a first successful barrel roll. In the unauthorized aerobatic maneuvers the machine broke apart due to structural overload and all three occupants were killed.

Coat of arms
The coat of arms description reads: In silver on green Three mountain which is covered with a silver wave peak, a green clover plant with five leaves, the stems covered with a blue sign in a gold heraldic lily.

Weihenzell maintains since 1986 a partnership with the municipality of Saint Laurent sur Gorre in Limousin.
