The municipality is located 7 km northeast of Ansbach in the natural park of Franconia.

History

The first mention is demonstrated in a feudal charter of Bishop Manegold to Würzburg from March 29, 1299. The Church of St. Gumbertus ( Ansbach ) is regarded as the founder of the place Weihenzell and was a significant landowner in the municipality. The place belonged to the Principality of Ansbach in 1792 acquired by Prussia, which was in the Frankish Empire Circle from 1500.
