Geography

Geographical location

The market Arberg located in the holiday regions Franconian Lakes and Hesselnberg between the Dennenloher lake and Altmuehlsee. From there, drop the Lias and Keuper soils from the wide Altmühltal. Just southwest of adjacent is the heath, the largest area forest in Middle Franconia.

Community structure

The historic market Arberg included the hamlets of Upper and Lower Schönau. In the course of municipal reform in 1972 following previously independent municipalities were amalgamated with their part places after Arberg: the parish villages Mörsach ( with the village George Hague and the hamlets Gothendorf ) and Großlellenfeld, the villages Kleinlellenfeld ( with the hamlet Eybburg ) and Kemmathen ( with the village Goldbühl ) and the hamlet of weapons mill, which today was previously owned by an independent village Wiesethbruck (municipality part of market Bechhofen at the heath ).

History

In the district of Arberg traces could be detected by Celtic, Roman and Germanic Altsiedlungen.   • The Pilgrimage Church of the Visitation in Großlellenfeld is a former fortified church. Around 1300 a Gothic antechurch was built with an older cemetery attachment. Between 1446 and 1500, the new building of the late Gothic church within the enlarged cemetery fortification from. In 1610, the Gothic spire was a domed roof after lightning strike.
