Mésandans

Mésandans is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Mésandans is located at 327 m, 9 km north of Baume- les -Dames and about 34 km northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located in the rolling countryside between the river valleys of the Doubs River in the south and Ognon in the north, in a basin in the headwaters of Crenu at the western foot of the plateau of the Bois des Brosses.

The area of ​​5.66 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the undulating countryside between Doubs and Ognon. The western part of the area occupied by the basin of the Crenu (inflow of Ognon ), the average is 320 m and in the merge different source streams. It is mainly passed with arable and meadow land. To the east runs a 100 m high terrain on stage at a low water, karstic plateau, which lies at about 430 m and mainly covered by forest ( Bois des Brosses and Bois du Valbertuy ). With 467 m is reached on a hill in the Bois des Brosses the highest elevation of Mésandans. The southern boundary runs in the area of the height of Mont du Ciel ( to 440 m).

Neighboring communities of Mésandans Romain are in the north, Fontenelle - Montby and Viéthorey in the east, and Vergranne Rillans in the south and Trouvans and Huanne -Mont Martin in the West.

History

Foundations of Roman watchtowers suggest a very early settlement of the municipality of Mésandans. In the Middle Ages had both the Lords of Neuchâtel ( Baume- les -Dames ) as well as those of Mont Martin real estate at today's communal land. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Mésandans is part of the municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Rougemont.

Attractions

The village chapel was built in the 15th century and has a remarkable statue of the Trinity from the building time. In the village, many houses have been preserved in the characteristic style of the Franche -Comté from the 16th to 19th centuries. Furthermore Mésandans has a large Lavoir ( wash house ).

Population

With 209 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Mésandans is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1891 298 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the mid- 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Mésandans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. In addition, there are today some of the local small business enterprises, including a meat processing operation. Meanwhile, the village has also changed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work.

The village has good transport links. It is located near the main road D50, which runs from Baume- les -Dames to Villers Exel. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 6 km. Another road connection with Clerval.
