Millevaches

Millevaches ( Miuvachas in Occitan ) is a commune with 85 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Corrèze, in the Limousin region. The municipality is a member of the Association of Municipalities Bugeat - Sornac - Millevaches au Coeur. The inhabitants call themselves Millevachois (it).

Geography

The municipality is located in the Massif Central on the Plateau de Millevaches and thus also in the Regional Natural Park Millevaches en Limousin.

Tulle, prefecture of the department is located, about 70 kilometers south-west, Égletons about 30 kilometers southwest and Ussel about 25 kilometers southeast.

Neighboring municipalities of Saint- Setiers Millevaches are in the north, Sornac in the east, Saint- Sulpice- les -Bois in the southeast, Chavanac in the south, Saint- Merd -les- Oussines in the west and Peyrelevade in the northwest.

The village is located about two kilometers north of the upper course of the Vézère, in addition, arises the Vienne in the northern part of the municipality. There is also the watershed between the tributaries of the Loire and where the Dordogne.

Traffic

The village is located about 25 kilometers northwest of the junction 23 of the A89 autoroute.

History

The today so named place was given to the abbey of Uzerche in 1048 by the Vicomte de Aubusson. Under the name Millevacas the place for the first time in 1145 was mentioned in the cartulary of the abbey.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms is divided: in the upper part on a red background a large silver M, the lower on a green background a golden cow with black claws and horns.
