Viam

Viam is a commune with 111 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Corrèze, in the Limousin region. The municipality is a member of the Association of Municipalities Bugeat - Sornac - Millevaches au Coeur. The inhabitants call themselves Viamois (it).

Geography

The municipality is located in the Massif Central on the Plateau de Millevaches and thus also in the Regional Natural Park Millevaches en Limousin. The town lies on the north bank of the Vézère and the Lac de Viam.

Tulle, prefecture of the department lies about 50 km south-west slightly, about 60 kilometers northwest of Limoges and Ussel about 40 kilometers southeast.

Neighboring communities of Viam are Tarnac in the north, Toy- Viam in the northeast, Bugeat in the east, Gourdon -Murat in the southwest, Lestards the southwest, Saint- Hilaire- les- Courbes in the west and Lacelle in the northwest.

Traffic

The village is located about 35 kilometers northwest of the junction 23 of the A89 autoroute.

  • The church of Saint Martin de Viam, a religious building from the 12th and 13th century, classified as a monument historique since 1976.
  • The Lac de Viam, a reservoir in the Vézère of 171 ha, located at an altitude of 695 m, completed in 1946
