Mittelberg

Mittelberg is a municipality in the district of Bregenz in Vorarlberg Austria with 4921 inhabitants (December 31, 2013). It is as a geographical enclave identical to the small valley.

Geography

History

The region was settled in 1270 by the coming from Switzerland Walser, who belong to the ethnic group of the Alemanni. Due to this origin the inhabitants differ linguistically today from those of the surrounding communities. Their dialect is assigned the highest Alemannic dialects, while speaking a low- Alemannic dialect and the rest of Vorarlberg a high of Alemannic dialect ( Vorarlbergerisch ) in the Allgäu.

Community name and coat of arms

As the village of Mittelberg has been settled as the first of three villages in the small valley, and later the seat of the court was ( seat of the court but was recently Hirschegg ), the municipality bears the name means mountain. Nominal municipal seat is not today Mittelberg, but Riezlern. There was in the past an attempt to change the community name on Kleinwalsertal.
