Novaya Lyalya

Novaya Lyalya (Russian: Новая Ляля ) is a town in Sverdlovsk Oblast (Russia) with 23.564 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city lies on the eastern edge of the Ural Mountains, about 300 km north of the Oblasthauptstadt Yekaterinburg, on the river Lyalya, a right tributary of the Sos'va. The climate is continental.

The city is the administrative center of Novaya Lyalya Rajons same name.

Novaya Lyalya is located on the railway line opened in 1906 Kushva ( station Goroblagodatskaja ) - Serov. The train station of the city is called Lyalya.

History

Novaya Lyalya arose in 1723 in connection with the construction of a state-owned copper smelter, which has already been closed again in 1744.

Since the beginning of the 20th century, the town became a center of the wood processing and paper production. In 1938 he received city rights. The name is derived from the river Lyalya ( Mansi for flow of enemies ), meaning New Lyalya (Russian Novaya, fem for newly ) as opposed to Staraya Lyalya / Alt- Lyalya, a village about 50 km upstream.

In Novaya Lyalya the POW camp consisted of 318 German prisoners of war of World War II.

Economy

Novaya Lyalya is a center of the wood and paper industry (Company Lyalya -les, pulp and paper mill ). In addition, there are companies in the food industry on the basis of the agricultural area in the vicinity ( potatoes, vegetables, livestock ).
