Prince George's County, Maryland

The Prince George's County is a county located in the U.S. state of Maryland. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Upper Marlboro.

The Prince George's County is part of the metropolitan area around the U.S. capital Washington, DC.

Geography

The County is located on the east bank of the Potomac River in eastern and southern suburban area of the U.S. federal capital Washington. The Potomac forms the border with Virginia. The Prince George's County has an area of 1,291 square kilometers; of which 34 square kilometers (2.61 percent) of water. It borders the following counties and independent cities:

History

The county was established in 1696 from portions of Charles and Calvert County of. It was named for George, Prince of Denmark (1653-1708), husband of Queen Anne of Great Britain.

1748 was founded on an outsourced part of the Prince George 's County, the Frederick County. 1791 another part of the county was divided for the newly formed District of Columbia.

Demographic data

According to the census in 2010 lived in Prince George's County 863 420 people in 297 937 households. The population density was 686.9 inhabitants per square kilometer.

The racial the population was composed of 19.2 percent white, 64.5 percent African American, 0.5 percent Native American, 4.1 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 3.2 percent were descended from two or more races.
