Rarities is a compilation album by the British band The Beatles, containing rare or difficult to find, but regular studio recordings.

History

The album was initially part of a box The Beatles Collection, which was released in November 1978. In addition to all of the Beatles studio albums (except Magical Mystery Tour ) contributed Rarities - with the note " Sampler Record - Not For Sale " ("- not for sale " ) on the back - to the attractiveness of this collection is not irrelevant at.

Once despite the " ban " copies were sold singly from Rarities prices to collectors, the album was released in October 1979 as a single issue. The decor was simple; the dark blue cover with gold lettering still leaned against the outward appearance of the Beatles collection and was not illustrated. Detailed explanations of the individual recordings (of Hugh Fielder, magazine Sounds) took a good half of the back of the record cover.

Content

The album begins with the first, in early 1968 begun and completed in the fall of 1969 studio recording of Across the Universe ( the so-called " Wildlife " version ), the only contribution of the Beatles in a benefit album for WWF No One 's Gonna Change Our ​​World in hitherto December was released in 1969 and thus represented a real rarity.

Most of the other songs on Rarities were as single B-sides know (or four of the EP Long Tall Sally ) and has been previously on several occasions, but scattered on Beatles compilations in the UK or (only ) re-released on the U.S. market. This recording, as well Come on, give me your hand, which had appeared first in Germany in 1964, were on the American edition of the album ( Capitol ) by the English originals ( which, however, could hardly be considered as rarities) replaced.

In March 1980, Capitol Records released instead of Rarities under the same title a whole new selection containing only four of the previous title.
