Rascafría

Rascafría is a municipality in the comarca of the Sierra Norte in the Autonomous Community of Madrid. Rascafría has about 2000 inhabitants and has an area of 150 km ² and is located at a height of 1200 msnm.

Geography

Geographical location

Rascafría lies on the southern slopes of the Valley of Lozoya heart of the Sierra de Guadarrama. The municipal area is the highest mountain in the Sierra, the Peñalara. The valley is drained by the River Lozoya. Through the town of Bach Artiñuello flows. Just south of the creek from El Paular flows in the river, which gave its name to the Carthusian Monastery of Santa María del Paular.

Economy and infrastructure

The main industry of Rascafría is now tourism, both winter as summer vacationers. Due to the close proximity to Madrid there are also many day trippers. In addition to numerous hotels there is also a youth hostel.

Traffic

The Valley of Lozoya is accessed from Highway M- 604, from Puerto de Coto ( Coto - pass ) from the province of Segovia in the southeast coming, leading to the north-eastern end of the valley. From there (20 km east of the town center ), the A- 1 (Burgos -Madrid ) further extends to Madrid ( a total of 96.3 km ). Alternatively you can about the Puerto de Coto and Cercedille go to Madrid ( 81.8 km ).

The bus route 194 connects the city with Madrid (Plaza Castilla ).

With the Ferrocarril de Guadarrama ( Trains C -9 of the Cercanías Madrid) Los Coto after Cercedilla and from there via the train line C- 8b of the place with Madrid is connected.
