Robert Tiernan

Robert Owens Tiernan ( born February 24, 1929 in Providence, Rhode Iceland ) is a retired American politician. Between 1967 and 1975 he represented the second electoral district of the state of Rhode Iceland in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Robert Tiernan attended La Salle Academy and then to 1953 Providence College. Then he studied until 1956 at the Law Faculty of the Catholic University in Washington DC Jura. After qualifying as a lawyer, he began in 1956 to work in this profession.

Politically, he joined the Democratic Party. Between 1960 and 1967 he was a delegate in the House of Representatives from Rhode Iceland. Upon the death of Congressman John E. Fogarty on 10 January 1967 Robert Tiernan was elected in the election due to his successor in Congress. Tiernan took up his new post on March 28, 1967, and practiced it after three re- elections until January 3, 1975 from. Prior to the elections of 1974, he was not nominated by his party for another term. Between 1975 and 1981, Tiernan was a member of the Federal Election Commission. After he retired from politics. He now lives in South Kingstown retired.
