Saint-Côme

Saint -Côme is a commune in the Gironde department in the region of Aquitaine. It was named after Saint Cosmas.

In Saint -Côme 301 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011). There is a primary school, a restaurant, two craftsmen and six farms. These can be found on site a theater and a hunting club, a gymnastics club and its own committee for celebrations. The people living on the cattle and the cultivation of cereal, strawberries and tobacco.

Church of Saint -Côme

The church dedicated to Saints Cosmas and Damian is the oldest building in the village. Over the centuries it has been destroyed several times, including by the Normans in the 10th century and later during the Revolution by the Calvinists. Since it has been redesigned a bit at each rebuild, it does not longer represent architectural unit in 1838, the then abbot, Father O'Reilly, who has also written a book on the history of Bazas, can perform detailed renovations. A keystone in the interior has engraved the date 1653 in Roman numerals. The wooden altar is from the 18th century.
