Saint-Macaire
Saint- Macaire, Gascon Sent Macari, is a commune with 2007 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) in the Gironde department in the region of Aquitaine. Saint- Macaire is the capital of the canton of Saint- Macaire. The church belonged to the district of La Réole and was assigned to the district Langon after its dissolution. The inhabitants are called Macariens.
Geography
Saint- Macaire is located on the orographic right bank of the Garonne, 31 kilometers north-west of Marmande and 42 kilometers south-east of Bordeaux. The neighboring municipalities on the right bank are Le Pian- sur -Garonne in the Northeast and Saint- Maixant in the northwest, on the left bank lie Saint -Pierre- de -Mons in the southeast and Langon in the southwest.
Community partnership
Since 1993, Saint- Macaire maintains a community partnership with Sierpc in Poland.
Economy and infrastructure
The department D1113 road and the railway line Bordeaux - Sète flank the village to the north.
Saint- Macaire is a tourist resort with many historical buildings. Major lines of business are also the agriculture, especially wine growing. It is mainly grown white wine.
