Serrières-sur-Ain

Serrières -sur- Ain is a commune in the French department of Ain, in the Rhône -Alpes.

Geography

Serrières Situated 317 meters above sea level. Level, about 18 kilometers east of the city of Bourg -en- Bresse ( straight line ) in the southern French Jura Mountains. The area of ​​8.18 km ² municipal area comprises an approximately 8 km long, narrow portion of the left Ainufers. The Montagne de Berthiand rises on the side facing away from the shore side, a ridge ( anticline ) in the Bugey, from the always open towards the river small side valleys.

The municipality Serrières -sur- Ain still include not only the main town the following hamlets and farmhouses:

  • Sonthonnax -le- Vignoble (450 m above sea level. M. ) north of Serrières in a semi- hollow 200 meters above the Ain
  • Merpuis (310 m above sea level. M. ) in the south
  • Malaval (460 m above sea level. M. ) a Hofgruppe on a rocky shoulder between two ravines.

Neighboring communities of Serrières -sur- Ain Bolozon in the north, Leyssard in the east, Challes -la -Montagne and Poncin in the south and Upper Court- Romanèche in the West.

History

Archaeological findings in two different caves situated in the rocks above the Ain, that the area was already inhabited in the Bronze Age. Is first mentioned Serrières in 1198. From the 13th century to 1402 it belonged to the rule of Thoire -Villars, after which it came under the suzerainty of the Counts of Savoy. The Treaty of Lyon Serrières arrived in 1601 to France. The village acquired in 1828 together with the hamlets mentioned above by the separation of Leyssard the status of an independent parish.

Attractions

The down side valleys leading to the Ain are in places so steep that there arise too rainy periods waterfalls. The Ain is in the range of Serrières an approximately 4 km long reservoir, from which the Barrage d' Allement electricity is obtained. Due to the flooding of the valley had 1959 the bridge structure of the D979 to be replaced, so that today spans a concrete arch bridge of 125 m span the dammed river at 45 m height.

The village church of Serrières was completed in 1897 to replace a dilapidated predecessor chapel.

Population

With 122 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Serrières -sur- Ain is one of the small communities of the department of Ain. After the population had steadily decreased during the 20th century (1901 269 persons were still counted ), a slight increase in population was recorded since the early 1990s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Serrières -sur- Ain was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and animal husbandry, and forestry village. Meanwhile Serrières has become a residential community, almost all workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work. A significant proportion of the houses in the village are second homes or are empty.

The departmental road D979 runs across a direct link road between Nantua and Bourg -en- Bresse to the mountain ranges of the Jura and includes the community in to the regional road network. In Serrières it crosses the Ain and then rises in the municipality steeply to the Col de Berthiand. A running along the Ain road connects the village with Merpuis Serrières and the neighboring community Poncin. The next connection to the national motorway network is 15 kilometers away, exit " La Croix Chalons " on the A404.
