Shawinigan Cataractes

The Cataractes de Shawinigan (English: Shawinigan Cataractes ) are a professional Canadian Junior Hockey team from Shawinigan, Quebec, which currently plays in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Play their home games the franchise since December 2008 at the Centre de Shawinigan Bionest from, previously was the Arena Jacques Plante, the home ground. The epithet " Cataractes " means " Waterfalls", in reference to the famous Shawinigan Falls.

History

1969 was the franchise as Shawinigan Bruins founding member of the QMJHL, it is also the only team that operates to this day in the same city. In 1973 the team in Shawinigan Dynamos and finally renamed in 1978 in its present name.

1985 and 2001 won the Trophée Jean Rougeau Cataractes as a master of the regular season, the championship of the QMJHL but never won the team so far. In order for the Cataractes are behind the Saskatoon Blades of the WHL team, the second- longest wait for a championship in the Canadian Hockey League.

In 1985, the franchise for the first time in club history at the Memorial Cup in part, the championship of the umbrella organization CHL, which is played annually between the masters of Canada's three top junior leagues WHL, OHL and QMJHL. As a host, the team reached the final, but lost against the Prince Albert Raiders. In the domestic arena Jacques Plante, however, only the first two matches of the tournament were held, as the remaining games were postponed due to columns in the stadium, which affects the television images to Drummondville.

2012 took Shawinigan again at the Memorial Cup in part, because it was chosen for the second time as the venue of the tournament. The games were held Bionest this time in the new Centre.
