Shire of Buloke

- 36.083333333333143.21666666667Koordinaten: 36 ° 5 ' S, 143 ° 13' O Buloke Shire is a Local Government Area ( LGA) in the Australian state of Victoria. The area is 8020 km ² and has about 7,000 inhabitants.

Buloke is in the northwest of Victoria about 350 km from the capital, Melbourne and includes the following towns a: Birchip, Charlton, Donald, Sea Lake, Wycheproof, Berriwillock, Culgoa, Nandaly, Nullawil and Watchem. The seat of the City Council is located in the town of Wycheproof in the southern half of the LGA in which about 750 inhabitants.

The area is part of the Mallee region, the driest and hottest region of Victoria. On the flat, low-lying land, especially grain is grown and used in animal husbandry. Buloke is attributed to the Wheat Belt ( Wheat belt ) of Victoria.

The Mallee was a former Marine Basin and so agriculture has to contend with the highly saline soil and groundwater. In addition, the recent low rainfall years have exacerbated the situation in the region.

Management

The Buloke Shire Council has nine members, who are elected by the residents of three wards (three Councillor from Mallee, Mount Jeffcott and Lower Avoca ). From the circle of Councillor also the Mayor ( Mayor ) of the Council recruited.
