Shire of Moyne

Moyne is located on the south coast of Victoria, about 290 km west of the capital, Melbourne and surrounds the LGA the coastal town of Warrnambool. The following villages are in the Shire: Macarthur, Hawkesdale, Orford, Woolsthorpe, Winslow, Codrington, Yambuk, Chatsworth, Woorndoo, Caramut, Hexham, Mortlake, Ellerslie, Port Fairy, Koroit, Killarney, Illowa, Framlingham, Panmure, Nullawarre and Peterborough. The seat of the City Council is located in the coastal town of Port Fairy with about 2,700 inhabitants.

The area lives mainly on agriculture and fishing. Port Fairy, formerly a stronghold of the whale and seal fishing, has a large fishing fleet today. Wool and sheep meat are the main agricultural products of the Shires. In Koroit is also the largest milk processing company in Australia is based on the amount of milk and the catchment area extends over western Victoria as far as into the neighboring state of South Australia.

The area around the volcano hill Tower Hill near the second largest town of Koroit was declared in 1892 for the first National Park Victoria. Tourist attraction is the south coast, which is part of the Shipwreck Coast. Many ships were wrecked in the 19th and early 20th century to the rugged coastal cliffs. The Moyne Shire Council has ten members who are elected by the residents of the five ridings.
