Shire of Moorabool

Moorabool is located in the center of Victoria and on the east by the capital Melbourne. The area includes the following villages: Barkstead, Leigh Creek, Pootilla, Bungaree, Millbrook, Yendon, Clarendon, Beremboke, Spargo Creek, Blackwood, Gordon, Greendale, Mount Egerton, Ballan, Ingliston, Bungal, Mount Wallace, Darley, Bacchus Marsh, Maddingley and Rowsley. The seat of the City Council is located in the city of about 2,600 inhabitants Ballan in the center of the LGA. Largest city of the Shires is Bacchus Marsh in the east with about 14,000 inhabitants

The area is one of the first settlement areas of the sheep farmers in Victoria after the founding of the colony in the Port Phillip Bay. To 1836/38, the first flocks of sheep the Moorabool River spread out along.
