Port Phillip is located south of the center of Melbourne at the northern edge of Port Phillip Bay and includes 15 neighborhoods: Albert Park, Balaclava, Beacon Cove, Elwood, Garden City, Middle Park, St Kilda, St Kilda East, St Kilda Road, St Kilda West, as well as parts of Port Melbourne, South Melbourne, Ripponlea, Southbank and Windsor. The seat of the City Council is located in St Kilda.

The City is part of the cultural center of the capital. Economically, Port Phillip revolves around the Melbourne harbor, lots of storage and administrative buildings are located mainly in the districts of Port Melbourne and South Melbourne. Station Pier in Port Melbourne is the main pier for passenger shipping in Melbourne for both ferries and cruise ships.

In Albert Park district is the track where since 1996 the Australian Grand Prix will be held in Formula 1. The Albert Park Circuit was set around a lake and is throughout the rest of the year part of a 2.25 -acre park. The park also includes the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, in which, among other things, the diver fought out their competitions at the World Swimming Championships in 2007.

In St Kilda is one of two Australian Luna Park. One of the rides in this amusement park is the Scenic Railway, the oldest distributors without interruption in operating roller coaster in the world. The district was in the early 20th century, the center of entertainment in Melbourne. Very famous is the Esplanade Hotel, which at that time began with jazz and dance events and now offers seven days a week on four stages performances of musicians and bands.
