On 28 July 1896, the Apostolic Vicariate of Changanacherry was built, raised to archeparchy the eparchy and July 29, 1956 December 21, 1923. On February 26, 1977 Diocesan area were transferred to the diocese Kanjirapally and on 11 November 1996 to the diocese Thuckalay.
