Thomas Müller (skier)
Thomas Müller ( born March 5, 1961 in Aschaffenburg ) is a former German nordic combined.
In 1981, Thomas Mueller who won the Junior World Championships in Schonach bronze in the Nordic combined. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 1982 in Oslo, he reached in the individual competition with a sixth place and missed fourth with the team only just a medal. In 1984, he finished at the Olympic Games in Sarajevo in the individual standings in fifth place. Throughout his career, Mueller won in addition to numerous podium four wins in the World Cup. He celebrated the first World Cup victory in 1984 in Schonach, 1985, he won in Upper Wiesenthal, in Lahti, Finland, he stood twice, in 1984 and 1987, on top of the podium. The World Cup 1985/86 season he finished second in the overall World Cup standings behind his compatriot Hermann Wine Book.
However, his greatest sporting successes celebrated Müller in team competitions. So he was. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 1985 in Seefeld, Austria, together with Hubert Black and Hermann Wine Book World Champion in the relay At the Nordic World Ski Championships 1987 in Oberstdorf, he was able to defend the title with Hans -Peter Pohl and Hermann wine book in front of a home crowd. A year later at the Olympic Games in Calgary were Thomas Müller, Hans -Peter Pohl and Hubert Schwarz Olympic Champion in the team competition the nordic combined.
When he failed to qualify for the Olympic Games in Albertville in 1992, Müller declared his retirement from competitive sports. In the same year he completed his studies in Tübingen with a degree in physical education instructor. After the end of his sporting career he became youth coach for ski jumping and Nordic combined. In 1994 he acquired the manager license as a certified trainer of the DOSB at the Cologne Academy coach. Since the season 2004/2005 he is a senior base coach of the Nordic Combined in Oberstdorf. Thomas Müller was chosen in the range of the German Skiing Nordic Combined coach of the year 2009.
