Pré-Saint-Didier

Pré -Saint- Didier ( Pré -Saint -Didier- les- Bains to 1861 in the Kingdom of Sardinia, San Desiderio Terme 1939-1946 ) is a town with 1040 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Aosta Valley. The municipality lies at an average altitude of about 1004 m slm and is about 33 km ².

Geography

The neighboring municipalities are Courmayeur, La Thuile and Morgex. Pré -Saint -Didier consists of the districts Champex, Élévaz, La Balme, Palleusieux, Torrent and Verrand.

History

In Roman times existed here probably a villa called Prata ad Sanctum Desiderum.

The bell tower of the parish church from the 11th century is one of the oldest in the Valle d'Aosta. By 1860, about 200 people lived here, in the 19th centuries visited spa guests, mostly British, in the village.

Economy

The spa town is dominated by its thermal source.

Traffic

Pré -Saint -Didier is located on the historically important Little St. Bernard Pass between the Mont Blanc Massif and the French Massif de la Vanoise.

The place is a terminus of the line Aosta -Pré -Saint -Didier.
