1986 World Snooker Championship

World champion was surprisingly Joe Johnson, who it past the first time in his career at the World Cup finals on round one. In the final, he defeated Steve Davis, the world champion of 1983 and 1984, which was also the last year in the final. The defending champion Dennis Taylor retired, however, from as early as the first round.

The later seven -time world champion Stephen Hendry gave his debut in 1986 and lasted until 2012, the record as the youngest player at the World Cup finals.

In the final, both players were able to make the game open for long periods. At the end of the first day it was 8:8, where Davis led the meantime already 7:4. On the second day Johnson got the better start, winning the first four frames. Although Davis came to the end of the session back to 13:11 approach, but in the fourth and final session Johnson was able to won the match at the registry of 14:12 with four frames in a row to win.

There were obtained 20 Century Breaks of ten different players. Thus, the previous record of 18 Century Breaks from 1986 has been outbid.

The highest break in qualifying was a 141 break by Stephen Hendry.
