2005 FIFA World Youth Championship

The 15th FIFA World Cup ( officially: FIFA World Youth Championship Netherlands 2005) was held from June 10 to July 2, 2005 in the Netherlands instead. 24 countries, including the host of The Netherlands, the defending champion Brazil, Germany and Switzerland, took part in the tournament.

Argentina was able to win with a 2-1 victory in the final against Nigeria the fifth overall World Cup title and is now once again the sole world champion. Third place went to defending champion Brazil, Morocco also defeated 2-1. Scorer with six goals, the Argentine striker Lionel Messi of FC Barcelona.

The German team was defeated in the quarterfinals of the later third-placed Brazil, Switzerland already retired in the first round as a group from Last. Austria failed to qualify for the World Cup finals themselves.
