A. R. McCabe

AR McCabe ( born June 1, 1896 in New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada, † 24 May 1985 in St. Maries, Idaho ) was an American politician. In the years 1946 and 1947 he was Deputy Governor of the State of Idaho.

Career

AR McCabe lived initially in Sedro -Woolley, Washington State before he came to Plummer, Idaho, where he attended high school. He then studied at the University of Idaho. During World War II he served in the United States Navy. He worked for some time as a teacher in Benewah County, before he studied until 1926 at the University of Oregon dentistry. In the same year he began to practice as a dentist in St. Maries. This profession he practiced until the entry into retirement in 1972. Politically, he joined the Democratic Party. In the 1930s, he was mayor of St. Maries; In the early 1940s he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Idaho. In 1943 he led the local Democratic group.

Following the resignation of Governor Charles Gossett Vice Governor Arnold Williams took over in accordance with the State Constitution whose term of office. Gossett's resignation was an agreed thing with Williams, who appointed his predecessor immediately after taking office, to succeed the late U.S. Senator John W. Thomas. Williams exercised the office of governor between 17 November 1945 and 6 January 1947. At his side as Vice Governor McCabe was elected, who held this position between 20 March 1946 and also the January 6, 1947.

Subsequently, for McCabe to the Senate of Idaho, where he was also a democratic parliamentary leader. In the 1950s he was a member of the education committee of his state and board member of the University of Idaho. He was also president of the Idaho State Dental Association. A. R. McCabe died on 24 May 1985 in St. Maries.
