Agronomía

Agronomía is a district of the Argentine capital, Buenos Aires. He is from the south-east from the center and has about 14,000 inhabitants (as of 2001) on an area of 2.1 km ². It was named after the Facultad de Agronomía ( Agronomic Faculty ), University of Buenos Aires. The district is bounded by the streets Avenida San Martín, Campana, Avenida Salvador María del Carril, Avenida de los Constituyentes and Avenida Chorroarín.

Parque Chas was formerly a part of Agronomía, but got in December 2005 granted the status of a separate district.

History

The area of present-day Agronomía formerly belonged to the Jesuits, and was named " Chacra de los Jesuites ". When the Order was expelled in 1769, the land reverted to the government. These existed in the "Real Colegio de San Carlos ", which later also the " Colegio Nacional de Buenos Aires " was.

At the end of the 19th century park was laid out on the property. 1901, the government provided 185 acres available for this purpose, it should be 30 acres for a station, a model farm and an agricultural school ( Escuela de Agricultura ) are used. The school had become necessary because of the policy to promote the development of the country through the export of agricultural products.

The current quarter was organized around the park. The individual settlements were all wearing the "de Agronomía ", which eventually prevailed as the city partial name. Originally intended as the station building was the " Instituto Superior de Agronomía y Veterinaria " (Institute of Agriculture and Veterinary Medicine ). The institute was founded on 25 September 1904 and five years later the " Facultad de Veterinaria y Agronomía " the University of Buenos Aires. 1984, the two directions were separated and were used to " agricultural school " and " school of veterinary medicine ."

Attractions

Besides the already mentioned university buildings are in Agronomía the Meteorological Station "Villa Ortúzar ", the museums of Anatomy (Museo de Anatomía ) and for surgical pathology (Museo de Patologia quirúrgica ) to see. In addition, there is to see ( From the land to the city ) in the district, a 16-hectare farm project for educational purposes with the name " Del Campo a la Ciudad ".

In an apartment in the Artigas Street writer Julio Cortázar lived of 3246. According to him, a street was named in the district.

Sports

Agronomía is home to several sports clubs, including the " Asociación Atlética Argentinos Juniors ," the " Club El Trébol " and the " Club Social y Deportivo Agronomía Central".
