Calamandrana

Calamandrana is a municipality with 1765 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Asti (AT ), Region Piedmont.

Geography

The village lies at an altitude of 151 m on the Belbo ( river system of the Po), between the hills of Asti and the Langhe. The municipality covers an area of ​​12 km ².

The neighboring municipalities are Canelli, Cassinasco, Castel Boglione, Nizza Monferrato, Rocchetta Palafea and San Marzano Oliveto.

Specialty

In Calamandrana are vines for the Dolcetto d' Asti, a grown red wine with DOC status. The berries of the grape varieties Pinot Noir and Chardonnay may be processed for sparkling wine Alta Langa. The Muscat grape for the Asti Spumante, a sweet DOCG sparkling wine with a low alcohol content and for still wine Moscato d' Asti are also grown here. In Calamandrana also vines of Barbera for the Barbera d'Asti, a DOCG red wine with tatus are grown.
