City of Whittlesea

- 37.65145Koordinaten: 37 ° 39 ' S, 145 ° 0' O Whittlesea City is a Local Government Area ( LGA) in the Australian state of Victoria. Whittlesea belongs to the city of Melbourne, the capital of Victoria. The area is 490 km ² and has about 154,000 inhabitants.

Whittlesea is located on the northern edge of Melbourne 17 and 41 km north of the town center and includes 12 Districts: Bundoora, Doreen, Eden Park, Epping, Lalor, Mernda, Mill Park, South Morang, Thomastown, Whittlesea, Wollert and Yan Yean. The seat of the City Council is located in South Morang.

About half of the inhabitants of the city are descended from non-English speaking countries, many from southern Europe. Whittlesea forms the transition from city to rural Victoria in the north.

The 560 -hectare Yan Yean Reservoir was 1853, the first reservoir, which had been created to secure the water supply.

Management

The Whittlesea City Council has nine members, who are elected by the residents of three wards (three Councillor per Ward). These three districts (North, East and West) are set independently of the districts. From the circle of Councillor also the Mayor ( Mayor ) of the Council recruited.
