Geographical Location

The market town Dürrwangen located in the southwestern district of Ansbach, near the district town Dinkelsbühl and Feuchtwangen (each 8 km away). The municipality, located mostly on the ridge between the valleys of the rivers Wörnitz and Sulzach and in Sulzachtal west of the river. Only in the amount of the capital Dürrwangen the community covers also small areas ( sports court settlement ) to areas east of the Sulzach; otherwise the Sulzach forms the northeast boundary of the municipality to the city wet cheeks. Neighboring municipalities are ( starting in the north clockwise): wet cheeks, Dentlein am Forst, long Furth, Dinkelsbühl and Schopf hole.

From the turbulent history of the market town of numerous buildings could be obtained:

  • Castle Dürrwangen: The former water castle is the oldest building Dürr Wangen. The keep dates from the early Middle Ages (probably 9th century ).   • Catholic parish church " Mary Immaculate " in Dürrwangen: The former St. Mary's Church in Dürrwangen was raised in 1884 to the parish church " Maria Immaculata " - 51 years after the conversion Dürr Wangen in an independent parish. The Gothic choir hall of the church probably dates from the 14th century, the tower basement floors from the second half of the 15th century.   • Gate tower Dürrwangen: The gate tower of the former local fixing dates from the late Middle Ages. The stucco building with half-timbered gable bears the coat of arms and the crest of the Princely House of Oettingen.
  • Hall Dürrwangen: Built in the two-storey house with hipped roof plaster structure in the late 18th century as the first school house at the site. Since 1962 it is the seat of the municipality administration of Dürrwangen. In 1981 a renovation.
