George Landenberger

George Bertram Landsberger ( born May 12, 1879 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, † January 15, 1936 ) was an American naval officer. Between 1932 and 1934 he was military governor of American Samoa.

Career

In 1900 graduated from George Landsberger the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis (Maryland). Subsequently, he served on several ships, including the USS Alabama and the USS Louisiana, as well as two naval bases as an officer in the United States Navy. At the end of his military career he had reached the rank of captain. First, he was assigned to the Pacific Fleet. He then moved temporarily into the Atlantic Fleet. For his military service as captain of the battleship USS Indiana during World War II, he was awarded the Navy Cross. In the 1920s, Landsberger was once again on the American Pacific Fleet. Between 1924 and 1926 he commanded the local destroyer fleet. Otherwise, he had command of the war USS Pennsylvania and USS Arkansas. In the early 1930s he was Chief of Staff in the 12th Naval District, which included the Panama Canal Zone. Then he commanded the naval base on Yerba Buena Goat Iceland Iceland in the bay of San Francisco.

Between May 12, 1932, the April 10, 1934 George Landsberger was Governor of American Samoa. He then headed the Navy Yard in Philadelphia. In 1935 he retired from the military service. He died on January 15, 1936 in Philadelphia from cancer.
