Samuel Canan

Samuel Wakefield Canan ( born June 7, 1898 in Altoona, Pennsylvania, † March 1964 in Pennsylvania) was an American naval officer. In 1945 he was appointed acting military governor of American Samoa.

Career

Samuel Canan graduated from 1916-1920, the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis (Maryland). In the following years he served as an officer in the U.S. Navy, where he rose to the Commander, which roughly corresponds to a lieutenant colonel in the army. Between 3 and 10 September 1945, he was appointed acting governor of American Samoa. He bridged the period between the departure of Governor Ralph Hungerford and the inauguration of his successor Harold Houser. After the end of his short time as governor lose track of him. He died in March 1964 in Pennsylvania.
